Welcome to part two of our August series about everything that’s new at xyztype.com. Thanks for following along!
We are happy to announce that Aglet Sans, Aglet Slab, Aglet Mono, and Study are now all available as variable fonts with a weight axis. We’ve been working up to this update for a long time!
Now when you buy a license for all of a family’s weights in either roman or italic, you’ll automatically receive the variable font along with the static fonts at no additional charge. (If you qualify from a past order, you’ll get them too! Watch for an email from us soon, or drop us a line.)
More complex variable functionality is also included in our in-progress families Polymode, Elevator, and Escalator. More on that later!
Simply put, variable fonts put a little bit of the type designer’s power into your hands. They allow you to adjust a specific characteristic of a font’s design, like weight or optical size.
In addition to giving you increased design control everywhere, on the web variable fonts provide major file size savings, by combining an entire weight range into a compact file.
That’s just scratching the surface. Read our detailed article to learn more about the power of variable fonts, and how we offer them.

If you want more, on Friday the 12th at 2pm ET we are doing a Q&A on Instagram Live, come ask us variable font questions.
We want to thank:
Doug Wilson, for writing an article that makes variable fonts approachable
Caren Litherland, for editing that article to make it sing
Vanna Vu, for visually demonstrating why variable fonts matter
Amy Auman, for the animations you see here, and more
GrayBits, for the design and development of our new site; allowing you to try and buy our variable fonts.
Stay tuned for our next email, all about our fonts in progress!
