Hello again! We donāt usually send emails this frequently, but thereās so much to tell you about what weāve changed for XYZ Type version 2.0! (Itās not just our website that has changed.)
We aim to make font licensing as simple as possible. Since our policies are unique, here are a few things you might want to know about them.
ā¶ Read āLicensing our fontsā on our site
Wait? Why would I pay for trial fonts?!?!ā ā
ā ā Our paid trial fonts have all the glyphs and features of the retail fonts, include desktop & web formats, and are available for our retail & fonts in progress collections. They are for testing, client pitches, and student work. Use them for comps and then buy the license you need.ā ā ā
They cost $20 for a family, and weāll credit you that back when you buy a full license.ā
Donāt worry, we still have free trial fonts; they have a limited character set, are just desktop fonts, are just for our retail collection, and include Trial in the font naming. Hey, they're free!ā
ā¶ Try our fonts
We now sell our desktop font licenses in tiers based on how many people will use the fonts. These days itās a lot easier to count users than keep track of all their desktop computers, laptops, and tablets.ā
Our web, app, and ePub licenses are priced by the size of the company using the fonts, rather than metrics like visitors or downloads.Ā
Rather than having to buy variable fonts as a premium product, youāll automatically receive them along with the static fonts at no additional chargeĀ when you buy a license for all of a familyās weights in either roman or italic.
We had so much fun onĀ Instagram LiveĀ the last two times, weāll be at it again on Friday. Join us at August 26 atĀ 3pm ET, when weāll answer your questionsĀ about licensing. Feel free to send questions in advance, or come and watch the replay later.
And in possibly the most unexpectedĀ development for our foundry, you can now find us on TikTok. We have some fun content planned there, so follow along.
Lastly, we want to thank Cydney Cherepak for illustrating our licensing, making the often dry subject a lot more colorful.
Thanks, as always, for your support!
